Marion County Youth in Action Team

The Marion County Youth in Action was the first Youth in Action in the state to be started by a local MADD Chapter. This enthusiastic group of young people evaluated the biggest issues facing their community that contributed underage drinking. Like many communities, they identified Social Access, or youth who get alcohol from their own home with or without a parents knowledge or from another adult not a retailer, as the main problem.

Utilizing this knowledge they were trained to conduct Alco-pops Presentations to alert adults how to tell the difference between these alcohol beverages and other non-alcoholic drinks, and inform about the increased danger to youth associated with the consumption of alcoholic energy drinks due to the increased risk of binge drinking. They also conducted Sticker Shock, and worked with local media outlets to increase awareness of the legality of providing alcohol to a minor and the social responsibility to protect the health of youth by keeping them alcohol-free.
