About MADD…

Since our beginning in 1980, Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) has been working to make our roads and communities safer by preventing motorists from drinking and driving. And our efforts have made a difference. Alcohol related traffic deaths have declined by more than 40% since 1980, saving more than 250,000 lives. Over 19,000 lives have been saved by the 21-minimum drinking age law alone.

As you can see, we have done much. But there is much more to be done. And we can't do it alone. We need more people like you.

MADD is more than just moms. We're dads and daughters, sons and uncles, friends and neighbors of all ages and from all walks of life. We are committed to our mission to stop drunk driving, support the victims of this violent crime, and prevent underage drinking.

Empowering Youth…

MADD's youth programs empower young
people to make a difference in their
communities. We offer free Youth in Action
training to youth to work locally to change
attitudes that underage drinking is a "rite of
passage" and to reduce youth's access to
alcohol.

MADD also can provide speakers for presentations to elementary, middle and high schools and colleges; professional associations; state agencies; coalitions; law enforcement; and other adult agencies to prevent underage drinking. With advanced notice, a presentation can be scheduled with one of our trained youth groups, staff members, or aS qualified victim advocate speaker who is willing to tell their story as a victim of drunk driving.

Victim's Assistance

How MADD can help?

  • A MADD Victim Advocate can offer emotional support and information by phone or in person.
  • MADD provides a wide selection of free literature, available in English and Spanish, for victims/survivors of crashes.
  • MADD Advocates may provide a list of referrals for professional mental health counselors, clergy, and civil attorneys.
  • MADD Advocates may be able to provide court accompaniment to offer emotional support and provide information about legal procedures as long as schedules permit.
  • MADD Advocates can help to provide you with another victim/survivor to talk with who has experienced a similar traumatic event.
  • MADD advocates may also provide you with information regarding Crime Victims Compensation, and assist you in preparing a Victim Impact Statement.
  • The National Helpline 1-877-MADD-Help, operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and is managed by trained counselors to provide service around the clock and on weekends and holidays.

Our services are free of charge and are available for as long as you need them.

Who can we help?

  • We help serve anyone who has been affected by an impaired driver. An impaired driver can be classified as someone who drives under the influence of alcohol, drugs, or both. We provide services to people of all ages no matter their race, socioeconomic status, gender, or religious philosophy who have been injured or lost a loved one in a crash. We serve family members, friends and communities that have been affected by an impaired driving crash.
